in California and Nevada are gaining new momentum, and we have long been touting the extra efficiency, low cost, and ease of maintenance of LEDs compared to incandescent technology.
The newly approved light poles for LED streetlights "are designed to improve the overall efficiency of the traffic signals and lighting systems designed and constructed."
California's official plan is praising the LED street light paradigm, calling it "safe, energy efficient, low maintenance."
The lampposts approved by the California Department of Transportation are spread throughout the state. E.g:
All red traffic signals are being retrofitted with red LED modules.
Solar LEDs, solar road lighting systems, LED fire extinguishing information signs and LightPipe lighting systems are still being developed.
Per Caltrans: "The tremendous advances in LED streetlight technology have broadened the applicability of this type of lighting and created exciting new options for road lighting."
